Jubilee Ceramic Kiln Fired Raku House Beads - 12-16mm with 1mm hole - Set of 8
8 kiln fired clay, raku house bead that measures about 16mm tall x 12-13mm wide and about 6-7mm thick. The beads are partially glazed. The holes for stringing are about 1mm and pretty well centered. One bead is textured on the back and is a different color. Handmade in USA by Jubilee Ceramics. These beads are part of my personal collection which I am destashing with much reluctance so they are a one off and sold at cost.
These beads are similar to those featured in Stringing Magazine, Spring 2010 and Beads2010 (cover and page 38).
The raku process produces surface irregularities and can produce small chips, thermal shock lines, color transfer, pin holes and crazing. Raku produces soot most of which can be washed off, but some remains. I have washed and rinsed all beads with baking soda then filed areas that were too rough. The black coloration is absorbed into the surface of the bead and ranges in color from black to light gray. The beads can sometimes smell smoky, especially close to production, but it fades over time. All clay beads are breakable. These are not toys.
